The new character, "Lucas" could be very cool. Ness is an odd but very good character to play as, I only wish Lucas has the abilities of Ness minus the quirky movement.
It appears that Lucas was in MOTHER 3, of which is a Japan only game that I haven't played but info can be found at http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mother_3.
